Still unpacking our swag

We are still regrouping after a few nights in Philadelphia. Everything worked out well for us with one highlight being the 4-on-4 Adidas Tournament on Saturday night. Usually the highlight of this night is the free beer from its sponsor Budweiser and some spirited soccer by a collection of teams comprised of all ages, both men and women. However, this might the soccer was a little different when we recognized one team was suiting up Preki -- yes THAT Preki. Once they started playing we realized that one of his teammates was Eric Wynalda -- yes THAT Eric Wynalda. The big surprise was that they were eliminated by a group of players from the Rochester, NY area that went on to win the championship. (Sorry we didn’t catch there name, and I as I mentioned above there was free beer.)

Overall the exhibit hall seemed to be filled with fake grass companies or software analysis tools. However there were some good causes represented, and over the next two weeks I will add some updates about some of the people and organizations that I met at the exhibit hall that are helping people and doing it around the youth soccer movement.

NSCAA Convention - Philadelphia

I am heading to Philadelphia tomorrow night for a weekend of soccer immersion therapy at the NSCAA Convention. I plan to hit the convention hall early on Thursday and take in a couple of sessions. The best part about the first day is just seeing everyone again. I have attended this convention for over 15 years so this is a great chance to see some familiar faces. Check in over the weekend, we should be able to do some updates right from the convention floor.

Youth Soccer 360 - The Reason

Youth Soccer 360 is an extension of SoccerClub!, a web site that has served the soccer community for over 10 years. These sites are designed to allow for the sharing of information from us to you -- and from you to everyone. We will bring up the topics and allow all of you to comment. Hope you find something here that helps.

Youth Soccer 360 - Tom McGuinness, Coach

Tom is the Head Coach for the women's team at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH.

Here's a clip from an article called "Building from bottom up" from the Nashua Telegraph that provides some background:

Daniel Webster College has a schedule and a new coach – former Mount Ida head man and Keene State assistant Tom McGuinness, who has deep roots in the soccer community. There are enough players – at least a dozen – to play an independent slate until the program builds itself back up again to the point where it can rejoin the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Mount Ida, a junior college, never had sports before and McGuinness put together a program that built a 40-16-3 record and made it to the national tournament. Then he spent six years as the head coach at Bridgewater (Mass.) State College, where he captured two conference championships and went 53-51-5. He also spent three years at Fitchburg (Mass.) State, where he went 18-34-1. He’s also been president of the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association the last six years, and has continued to coach club soccer.

Youth Soccer 360 - Tim McGuinness

Tim is an business suit in the Internet business. He knows enough about soccer to have some comments, but most importantly he knew how to build the web site and then get out of Tom's way, so Tom could handle the content. Tim lives in the Washington D.C. area. Tim created SoccerClub! in 1996 as a training tool for himself, but it has provided over 10 years of assistance to new coaches and parents.
