We recently visited Maine and then Boston to see old friends. On Sunday, we went to the North End, which is the Little Italy of Boston, to watch the World Cup final of Italy vs. France. It was wild. Police closed the main streets in the area and people flooded local cafe to watch through the front windows.
I like a good World Cup discussion as much as the next guy. However, going into yesterday's game vs. Ghana, it seemed rather odd discussing the probability that the US would advance into Round 2 if it could win. The reason it seem odd is that the US had not proven yet that it could score a goal. It's only goal in games 1 and 2 was an own goal by Italy. So first things first, we have to score to win. In the end, the US did score today, but it still wasn't enough.
